s the film opens, a young woman asks for a lift from a man whose face is kept obscured by the camera. When he turns off the main road, she starts to panic but then reasons aloud that the man must be taking a shortcut (he does not speak throughout). When he stops and puts on black leather gloves, the girl realizes that things are amiss and makes a run for it. She hides behind a tree stump until she thinks he is gone.
