Al brigadiere dei Carabinieri d'un paesino veneto viene affidato l'incaricato di svolgere indagini sull'arrivo d'un disco volante. Durante l'inchiesta interroga un gruppo di persone che dichiarano d'aver visto realmente i marziani. Alla fine, soltanto Vittoria, una povera contadina vedova e con molti figli, riesce ad impadronirsi d'un marziano, e lo vende al padrone. La madre dell'uomo, per�, sopprime il marziano, accusa la contadina di truffa e spedisce il figlio in manicomio. In questo modo tutti i protagonisti della vicenda sono accusati di essere dei visionari ed il sensazionale avvenimento viene ben presto sepolto nell'indifferenza generale.
